Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: "Ensuring well-being and quality of life is the main task of the state"
The January events in our country have shown that the problem of social inequality has worsened in our country – one of the central problems in sociology, stratification studies.
In his speech, the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a meeting of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted the following: "The problem of inequality has also worsened. It is getting worse from year to year, although the average income figures of the population seem to be growing, at least on paper. However, decent average earnings hide a strong property stratification in society. Many pressing problems of citizens have not been solved."
In modern conditions of a market economy, social inequality in its socially significant expression is the main characteristic of modern society in Kazakhstan.
Social inequality is the conditions under which people have unequal access to such social goods as money, power and prestige, takes place in any societies.
According to the Gini coefficient, this is an indicator reflecting income inequality in Kazakhstan, 10% of the most affluent population of the country had 24.61% of total income, and 10% of the least affluent population had a share of 4.15%, that is, the difference, the income gap was 5.9 times.
But inequality is not an inevitable phenomenon, experts of the UN international organization say and warn that income inequality hinders economic development, and also leads to mass protests and social upheavals, both in rich and poor countries. Which was one of the reasons for the tragic events in our country.
Despite the clear increase in the gap between the haves and have-nots on a global scale, UN experts are confident that this trend can be changed and more equitable and sustainable development of society can be achieved.
The President of the country has set the task: "Ensuring well-being and quality of life is the main task of the state. These words should be translated into the plane of real affairs." Incomes of all population groups will grow as the economy in the country grows.
A public social fund "Kazakhstan Halkyna" will be created in the country. It will be engaged in solving real problems in the field of healthcare, education, and social support. These concrete and other measures will contribute to solving the problems of social inequality in Kazakhstan.
