Bakytgul Zhetpisbaeva: We have a good position!
For the first time in 28 years, the Innovative University of Eurasia is headed by a woman - doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Bakytgul Zhetpisbaeva. On the eve of the December holidays, exactly six months are fulfilled when Bakytgul Asylbekovna took up her duties. A lot of work has been done during this time. About Pavlodar, the vision of the present and future of InEU, our questions to the new head of the university.
- Bakytgul Asylbekovna, we know that before that you worked for a long time at a large state university. Now you are the rector of a private university - InEU. Are there any differences?
- I don’t see a fundamental difference - this is primarily work with teachers and students, external partners. These are the same processes, similar problems. But unlike state universities, private ones have more freedom in matters of financial management, stimulating teachers and students, and developing entrepreneurship. And state universities in the conditions of transition to non-profit joint-stock companies (JSC) only have to gain such experience. I say this quite consciously, having experience.
Yes, in fact, before InEU, I worked at the KarSU named after E. A. Buketov. For almost 30 years, she has gone from a teacher to the dean of one of the leading faculties of the university. This experience today determines my advantages, has become a reliable guarantee that I see the entire vertical of management from the department to the administration.
- What is your impression of InEU?
— For five months of working as a rector, InEU got the opportunity to see the university from the inside, understand its strengths and weaknesses. I am deeply convinced that InEU has a good reputation in the region, many years of strong ties with employers. InEU graduates are in demand on the labor market: employment rates are stable, about 90%. Today, graduates work both in Kazakhstan and abroad.
Among the strengths of the university, I would note the active international cooperation of InEU in partnership with Nazarbayev University, ENU named after N. Gumilyova and other leading universities of the country. We have 11 projects under the Erasmus + Program of the European Union. We are one of the few universities that have doctoral programs. Our students are actively involved in the start-up movement, social projects of the city, volunteer events.
Recently, our student Alexander Patrushev was recognized as the best by the results of the competition of the Alliance of Students of Kazakhstan, organized as part of the Year of Youth-2019. We are proud to name the name of the student of the Department of Business and Management of InEU Altynbek Serikov - he took 1st place in the regional debate tournament dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the first language law in the history of our country. We are proud of the InEU graduate Meirambek Baysekenov, who was included in the thirty trainees of the Jas Orken program of Samruk Kazyna JSC. This winning list could be continued. By the way, you can always get a lot of useful information, including on the achievements of the university, its teachers, students and graduates on our website ineu.kz.
- Bakytgul Asylbekovna, what are your prospects for the development of InEU?
- University has great prospects. To do this, there is a solid reserve, a sufficient level of innovative potential. Given this, I set new challenges for the team. First of all, it is the development of innovative educational programs that will take into account the modern possibilities of the labor market, scientific achievements, and interdisciplinarity. For example, such educational programs as "Information Technologies in Business", "Biopharmaceuticals", "Philological Consulting" and a number of other programs.
We want to expand the program of double diploma education with universities in foreign countries. At the beginning of the school year, a language development center was opened, which teaches teachers and employees of the Kazakh and English languages. This is important for the implementation of a trilingual education program and the development of English language instruction. This will also be facilitated by the fact that at the beginning of December we won a grant from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan through the World Bank to train English employees. The size of the grant is 105 million tenge.
I will pay special attention to the development of university science, the participation of our teachers in various competitions of scientific projects. In 2020, we plan to open a dissertation council in the specialty of biotechnology.
An important area of the university’s activity today is the implementation of the Ruhani Zhangyru program. It is important to understand here that in order to improve the quality of education and the quality of life, spiritual modernization is of lasting importance. In order for the implementation of this program to be effective and systemic, we adopted our concept of promoting the values of the Ruhani Zhangyru program at InEU.
— You are talking about prospects, this is your vision of the university. And how are the activities of InEU evaluated in the external environment today?
— I believe that here we also have good positions. Firstly, they are accredited until 2024 by an independent accreditation agency, which is included in the international registry. Secondly, we have stable positions in the national ranking of the leading multidisciplinary universities in Kazakhstan. Every year, the Ministry of Education and Science gives us confidence, allocating educational grants for training in undergraduate, graduate, doctoral programs.
Up to 70 students are currently studying under the grants of local executive bodies and leading enterprises of the region, including Aluminum of Kazakhstan JSC,
NurKaspian, Rubikom LLP, KazMinerals, Galitsky LLP. Such trust, in my opinion, is primarily associated with a high assessment of the quality of training of specialists at InEU.
— Bakytgul Asylbekovna, you are not so long ago in Pavlodar. How did the city meet you?
— I arrived in Pavlodar in the summer. A beautiful, clean city with many cozy squares and fountains. I was impressed by the magnificent promenade, views of the Irtysh, promenade concerts. I felt the special flavor of Pavlodar with its new buildings and old wooden houses. There are many interesting monuments. Trams add a special charm to the city. Not every city today will see this. In general, I feel cozy and comfortable, quite easily and quickly settled in Pavlodar.
— Our meeting takes place on the eve of the most important holidays for Kazakhstan people - Independence Day and New Year. What can you wish your colleagues, InEU and yourself?
— Let the new page of our common history be full of opening prospects, positive, warmth and high achievements. And for yourself - emotional and emotional comfort.
